One of the World's Most Twisted Towers: The Dance of Light
China has achieved yet another architectural feat by unveiling one of the world's most twisting towers, dubbed the 'Dance of Light'.
The 180-meter-high structure bends 8.8 degrees on each floor. This makes this structure special because it is 1.5 times more than normal bending structures.

In the Dance of the Light, inspired by the Northern Lights, double curved facades are used to give the impression that the building is bent. Each component of the 39-storey building is inspired by stars and celestial events.
The Dance of Light is characterized by the combined use of linear forms and curved facades. Thus, an impressive curved surface was created that emphasizes the minimalist form of the architecture. In addition, with the reflections coming from the glass and the refraction of the light, one of the main elements in architecture is brought to the fore. Lights hitting from different angles at certain times of the day cause color plays on the building.
The impressive facade design inspired by the aurora is expressed by establishing a bottom-up link between the north and east sides.
The building's unique twist posed a major challenge to the system as it has a high double curvature ratio. Precise work has been carried out with an innovative technology. Thermal performance, weather and safety parameters were evaluated using 3D BIM simulations to adapt to the variable geometry of the façade. Construction cost savings were achieved by using flat glass instead of hyperbolic glass on a part of the facade.
